Water tower in Whiteland, IndianaWhiteland, Indiana and its sister city, New Whiteland, are located about fifteen miles south of Indiana state capital Indianapolis. These two small Midwestern cities share roughly the same relationship that West Lafayette and Lafayette do, pooling their resources to create a tiny metropolitan area of sorts. As per the name, Whiteland is an older city than New Whiteland; the original town was founded in the late 19th century, while New Whiteland was officially incorporated in 1954. While these sister cities aren’t hotbeds of activity by any stretch of the imagination, there are enough Whiteland things to do to keep most people interested.

Rural Whiteland is just off Highway 31The main source of things to do in Whiteland is the Whiteland Parks Department, the governing body behind all the green spaces and recreation areas in this small Midwestern city. There are five Whiteland and New Whiteland parks, each with its own amenities, facilities, and environment. West Park, Country Gate Park, Joseph E. Proctor Memorial Park, East Park, and Tot Park are the five parks in the New Whiteland and Whiteland parks system. West Park covers almost eight acres and has playground equipment, some rugged, hilly terrain, and a creek; Country Gate Park surrounds a small, man made lake and features walking trails and a shelter house; and Tot Park is a small, one acre neighborhood park designed for New Whiteland and Whiteland children.

East Park encompasses eight acres of playing fields for Whiteland sports. With baseball diamonds, tennis courts, volleyball courts, and basketball courts, you can fulfill all your athletic aspirations at East Park. Joseph E. Proctor Memorial Park, also known simply as Proctor Park, houses a memorial to all the city’s fallen veterans, a memorial to members of the armed services, the police force, and the town’s fire department. The monument itself is a subtle arrangement of red brick and symbolic flags centered around a granite monument. Aside from the monument, Proctor Park also has a shelter house for Whiteland events, a man made lake, and a large playground for Whiteland children. Visiting either of these fun parks is a great Whiteland thing to do.

You can get delicious Chinese food at the New Bejing Chinese Restaurant in little Whiteland, IndianaIf you’ve spent a long day in the Whiteland parks system and you’re looking to have a seat and fill that growling stomach of yours, Whiteland and New Whiteland have a good stable of interesting restaurants to meet your needs. Whiteland restaurants span a variety of different cuisines, a surprising amenity in a town as small as this. Popular places to spend an evening in Whiteland include a branch of Circle City Pizza, an Indianapolis restaurant chain that has locations throughout Central Indiana; Kacey’s Twin Eatery, a deli style restaurant that’s smack dab in the middle between Whiteland and New Whiteland; New Beijing Chinese Restaurant, a pan-Asian cuisine place that can satisfy even your most rabid rangoon or lo mein cravings; and Whit’s Inn, a locally owned Whiteland business that’s a good place to carouse with your pals. Taking the time to eat out at a Whiteland restaurant is a fun Whiteland thing to do.

Whit's Inn bar in Whiteland, IndianaWhiteland, Indiana and its sister city, New Whiteland, are peaceful little communities located just to the south of Indianapolis. Like the many other towns of its size that dot Central Indiana, things to do in Whiteland are of the more sedate variety, focusing more on togetherness and leisure than on long nights and loud music. The New Whiteland and Whiteland parks system encompasses several different green spaces that are designed for many different purposes, meaning there’s always something new to do in town. Whiteland restaurants can satisfy any palate with their variety of cuisines, casual atmospheres, and helpful staff. And, of course, Indianapolis is always available for those who grow bored of what Whiteland has to offer. Things to do in Whiteland may be more sedate than its big city neighbor, but that’s the kind of entertainment its residents like.
